GERÊS-XURÉS DINAMIC - BIOSPHERES SUPPORT THE ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL ECOSYSTEM
Transboundary preservation
The Gerês-Xurés Transboundary Biosphere Reserve is known for its epic mountainous landscape. The reserve's over 800 native and non-native species share the area with almost 70,000 locals who, for generations, have relied on a predominantly agriculture-based livelihood. GERÊS-XURÉS DINAMIC is raising awareness of the region's natural and cultural heritage in a way that engages and supports local and regional populations. This EU cross-border biosphere reserve project is committed to not only protecting the region from environmental degradation but also supporting a local economy that reinforces this preservation, particularly through geotourism.
